A woman who filmed police officers from her own front yard has been arrested after she refused to put down her camera.

Emily Good was handcuffed as she filmed police arresting a man outside her New York home.

The 28-year-old was charged with obstructing government administration after officers said she refused the police officer’s order to leave her front yard and enter.

Her arrest in Rochester, New York, has sparked a media outcry over the filming of police officers.

Miss Good’s video, illuminated by police sirens, begins with a man being questioned by a police officer around 10 p.m.

“I just got out of the house, man, I’m sick, man,” you hear the arrested man say.

He is led away handcuffed and one of the officers then turns to the camera and asks, “Do you need anything?”

I’m just, this is my front yard, I’m just recording what you’re doing. It’s my right,’ replies Miss Good.

“Actually, not from the curb,” the officer replies.

The video, uploaded to the internet this week, more than a month after Miss Good’s May 12 arrests, has raised questions about whether she had her right to film or should have listened to police and her had to enter the house.

Rochester Police Union president Mike Mazzeo said the officer in question repeatedly told Miss Good he felt threatened by her presence.

“I see an officer who uses great restraint, remains calm, conducts himself professionally, clearly gives very clear and concise orders to a person who simply does not obey.

Mr. Mazzeo says that what cannot be ignored is the danger the police are in on a daily basis and the fact that she is on her property is insignificant.

“I think in my opinion she was definitely trying to turn on the cops, and that’s so dangerous because it’s a distraction from what these cops are doing,” he added.

The police chief has ordered an internal investigation into the incident.

Mr Mazzeo says the officer told him that Miss Good claimed to know the man searched in the video.

He says that because she claimed to have a connection with the man, the officer had even more reason to be concerned about her behavior.

The police chief pointed out that Miss Good has not filed a formal complaint.

Her lawyers say it’s because Miss Good has been investigating a possible civil claim.
