Attorneys for President Donald Trump filed a motion in a Georgia court to block a special grand jury’s report while seeking to force the Fulton County District Attorney to be removed from the case entirely.

The ill-advised legal move comes amid reports that Georgia prosecutors are considering bringing extortion and conspiracy into their investigation into the 2020 election effort by Trump and some of his allies.

The motion would “preclude the use of any evidence from the report” – and comes after the jury’s forewoman in the case gave public indications that several people could be charged.

The legal maneuvering in Georgia comes days after Trump posted on his Truth Social site that he would be arrested Tuesday in connection with Stormy Daniels’ “silent” money scheme and called for protests, amid tense preparations in Manhattan for potential charges.

The Georgia submit requests the court to secure the removal of Fulton County DA Fani Willis, who has been the subject of repeated Trump attacks, asking for “disqualification from any further involvement in this matter.”

Trump’s attorney Drew Findling said so New York Times he had issued the application on behalf of his client.

The special grand jury heard testimony in the case for months beginning in May, though a separate grand jury would actually bring charges.

The jury’s forewoman Emily Kohrs drew attention with a series of media appearances, including one in which she said it would have been a “great moment” if she had been allowed to swear in Trump after a subpoena.

She also seemed to indicate that there could be multiple charges in the case.

“Can you imagine doing this for eight months and not coming up with a whole list of ‘recommended charges,’ Kohrs told CNN last month. It’s not a short list. It’s not.’

There were indications that Trump’s legal team would try to quash any charges, in part by citing media statements about the case. Trump called it a “kangaroo court” at the time.

“I wanted to hear from the former president, but frankly I wanted to subpoena the former president because I have to swear everyone in,” she said. “And so I thought it would be really cool to get 60 seconds with President Trump where I look at him and say, ‘do you solemnly swear,’ and have me swear him in,” she continued

Willis has investigated behavior related to Trump and his allies’ attempt to reverse the results of the 2020 election, including the former president’s infamous phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asking him to “find only 11,780 votes” .

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, speaking to multiple members of the special grand jury, reported that members also heard a recording of an additional Trump appeal to former Georgia House Speaker David Ralstonnow deceased.

The Republican former speaker interrupted Trump, according to a grand juror, telling Trump, “I will do everything in my power that I think is appropriate.”

According to the Times, experts say Willis is building a case that “could target multiple defendants with allegations of conspiracy to commit election fraud or charges related to racketeering.”

CNN also reported that prosecutors are investigating potential charges under the Racketeering of Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, which is often used to fight organized crime.
