A missing teenager who drowned off the coast of a popular Sydney beach is remembered by his loved ones as a lover of the outdoors – as his mother shared a heartbreaking post on social media.

18-year-old Ivan Korolev went swimming with two friends at Freshwater Beach around 8 p.m. Saturday night.

His two friends called the police when they lost track of him and he failed to return to shore at around 8:15 p.m.

Emergency services launched an extensive search and rescue operation, working through the night to find Ivan.

After initially being unable to find him, the search began again on Sunday morning.

His body was tragically discovered in the water around 9:15 am.

Friends and family have shared tributes to the adventurous young man on social media.

Ivan’s heartbroken mother, Anna Zolotukhina, shared an emotional message that read, “My son, my son.”

She said The Daily Telegraph that her son was “one of the strongest and kindest people I ever knew” and “had many friends.”

She spoke of her son’s love of the outdoors, saying he played sports “every day,” enjoyed parkour and practiced martial arts “since he was five.”

Ivan also wrote on Facebook that he was a ‘lover of all things outdoors’.

He would start a sports and fitness course at the Australian Catholic University within a few weeks.

The search continued in the morning when Ivan’s body was found.

Police say his death is not considered suspicious.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
