Scream VI could set a new franchise box office record on its opening weekend

Scream VI has a chance to set the franchise’s top domestic box office record in its opening weekend, with the highly anticipated film aiming for $35 million+ in revenue.

The new film, starring Courteney Cox, Jenna Ortega and Hayden Panettiere, is due out March 10 and could beat the record set by 2000’s Scream 3. $34.7 million on its debut.

2022’s Scream made $30 million at its domestic opening, and with much fanfare surrounding the franchise’s latest offering, Scream VI could top that record.

The latest film comes 26 years after the original and transports the action from Woodsboro to the mean streets of New York.

The official synopsis reads, “Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro for a fresh start in New York City.”

“However, they soon find themselves fighting for their lives when a new killer begins a bloody rampage.”

Scream VI’s biggest box-office taker will be Creed III, with sci-fi dinosaur movie 65 also releasing this weekend.

It comes after Courteney has spilled some juicy new details about the upcoming horror sequel.

The actress revealed that she will face Ghostface, the masked serial killer.

Several characters don the Ghostface mask over the course of the film series, and their identities are eventually revealed.

However, Courteney revealed that in Scream IV her character Gale Weathers will have to hold her own against Ghostface for the first time without knowing who it is.

“I got a really good scene with Ghostface and it was great. Obviously I’ve been stabbed many times and everything, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who’s under the mask, it was a lot of fun,” she said in a new interview with Variety. “Usually by the time I get stabbed I know who it is.”

Courteney is the only star of the first Scream movie to stay with the franchise until the new movie.

“As a woman, I’ve had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Scream,” she said.

“I felt that the offer I was offered did not match the value I brought to the franchise,” explains the 49-year-old actress.

She has been inseparable from the franchise to date, which has grossed more than $744 million cumulatively worldwide.

Courteney therefore had to make a Scream movie without Neve for the first time, and in her new Variety interview, she said of the experience, “I’ve missed working with her, but I’m going to support whatever she feels is right.”
