Saturday Night Takeaway fans were left in hysterics during this weekend’s episode when Shrek tumbled and fell off the stage midway through the show.

The character’s journey went completely unnoticed by presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 47, unaware of the hilarity behind them.

Concerned for the bogeyman’s well-being, viewers of the show flocked to Twitter to ask the hosts if everything was okay.

Meanwhile, other fans wondered if they’d really seen it fall over while someone else joked that they rewinded the show to rewatch the moment.

One person wrote, “Howling at Shrek falling into a trap. we had to rewind for a second take!’

Another person added, “I swear I just saw Shrek take a drop off the back of the stage.”

Shrek falls over on Saturday Night Takeaway!! I have tears!’ A third wrote.

One fan quipped, “Has Shrek been on the happy juice this week?”

When the show returned after the commercial break, host Stephen Mulhern made sure to cover the situation.

“If you saw Shrek fall off stage before intermission, he’s in the ER,” he joked with a straight face before adding, “Just kidding, he’s fine!”

Last weekend, Saturday Night Takeaway fans shed tears as Ant performed sign language for two contest-winning deaf brothers.

The TV presenter and co-star Dec were in the audience of the ITV show handing out a ‘Place on the Plane’ before the show’s live finale in Orlando, Florida to deserving spectators and viewers.

And Ant proved himself a conscientious host when he appeared to be learning British Sign Language when he told brothers Tony and Tosin Kalejaiye that they had secured a spot on the plane thanks to their great fundraising effort.

Ant approached the shocked siblings in the crowd and said, “Hi guys! Tony and Tosin were both born deaf.

“They were fitted with cochlear implants at the age of two, but they were determined to help others in the same situation.

‘They’ve been fundraising since they were just four years old and so far they’ve raised an incredible £25,000 to help other deaf children around the world. We think you’re incredible…”

He added, “And you have a seat on the plane!” with the star signing the last part of the sentence to the brothers.
