Russia bombards multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, Odessa and Kharkiv, with missiles, knocking out power for hundreds of thousands of people

Russian strikes hit a range of Ukrainian regions early Thursday, including the capital Kyiv, the Black Sea port of Odessa and the second-largest city of Kharkiv, knocking out power in several areas, regional officials said.
The attacks hit a variety of targets, including towns stretching from Zhytomyr, Vynnytsia and Rivne in the west to Dnipro and Poltava in central Ukraine.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said explosions had been registered in the southwestern part of the city and rescue services were on their way.
Power has been preventively cut off to about 15 percent of Kiev residents, he said.
Reuters correspondents in Kiev heard another series of explosions around 7 am local time (0500 GMT).

Odessa region governor Maksym Marchenko said a massive rocket attack hit a power plant in the port city, causing a power outage.
“As a result of a massive missile strike, an energy infrastructure site in the region was hit, as well as homes,” Marchenko said on Telegram.
He said that anti-aircraft units had downed some missiles and that further attacks could follow.
Fortunately, there are no casualties. There are electricity restrictions in place.’
Kharkiv region governor Oleh Synehubov said the city and region had been hit by about 15 attacks.
“The enemy has carried out about 15 attacks on the city and the region,” he told Telegram.
‘Infrastructure was again one of the goals. Information about victims is being clarified.’
According to Ukrainian news outlet Obozrevatel.ua, two people were injured by a rocket attack in Kharkiv that landed near their home.
Another strike was reported in the central city of Dnipro and in the western cities of Lutsk and Rivne, far from the front lines in the years of war.
