Recent Match Report – Australia vs India 1st ODI 2022/23

Toss India chose to bowl vs Australia

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, who missed due to family commitments, India’s substitute captain Hardik Pandya won the coin toss and decided to give chase in the first ODI at Wankhede Stadium. Hardik expected dew to play a role in the second half and that played a part in his decision.

India entered with three seamen in Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur apart from Hardik himself. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are the two spinners.

Australia had to make a late change due to Alex Carey being unwell; Josh Inglis replaced him in the XI. David Warner isn’t 100% either, meaning Mitchell Marsh will open the innings. Marsh makes a comeback after his ankle surgery and plays this series as a specialized hitter. Steven Smith leads the team in the absence of Pat Cummins.

The match is played in the midfield of Wankhede Stadium, so there is no real short or long boundary. The surface has an even layer of grass and the ball is expected to land nicely on the bat. With Marcus Stoinis at number 8, Australia has the required depth of stroke to aim for a dew resistant total.
