The costumed couple, in central Sheffield the night before Halloween, attacked a group of teenagers leaving a popular bar. The assault was unprovoked and South Yorkshire Police are asking for any information.
The couple, who stepped out in Sheffield city center the night before Halloween, impersonated famous comic book characters Batman and The Joker.
The male assailant (left) wore a Batman T-shirt during the attack on October 30. The caped crusader was recently played by Robert Pattinson (right) in The Batman.
The woman also wore bright makeup to mimic the look of the infamous Joker character, who is very pale and has bright green hair.
The Batman character was introduced by DC Comics in 1939 and is the alias of billionaire and philanthropist Bruce Wayne.
The anti-hero, with his partner Robin, becomes a vigilante after witnessing the violent death of his parents as a child.
The Joker has been portrayed by a number of high-profile actors, including Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson, since the character was introduced in 1940.
He is Batman’s archenemy and is a psychotic criminal mastermind who repeatedly escapes from Arkham State Hospital, a psychiatric facility where he is often incarcerated.
The assailant was dressed as the popular villain The Joker in a purple top and pale makeup. There are many fan theories about the origins of the Joker’s unique appearance, including that he fell into a vat of acid.
