Nancy and Paul Pelosi arrived in New York City on Monday, the day before Donald Trump claimed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would issue charges against the former president.

Speaker Emerita and her husband arrived in a bevy of SUVs surrounded by federal marshals who continue to provide protection even as she stepped down from Democratic leadership. Congress extended its security detail for a year after the near-fatal attack on Paul Pelosi at their San Francisco home by an assailant searching for the then-speaker.

On Tuesday, Pelosi will appear at the Wall Street Journal forum at Lincoln Center.

Pelosi’s office did not immediately respond to Dailymail.com’s request for comment.

According to social media reports, the couple were in Washington DC this past weekend when the former House speaker attended a Women’s History Month event at the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris and the Mark Twain Prize at the Kennedy Center on Sunday.

They arrived in New York as the office of Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg indicated that charges against the former president were imminent, but did not provide a timeline to Trump’s lawyers, according to the New York Times.

Trump claimed on Saturday that he would be arrested Tuesday, though officials have not confirmed that date as the grand jury has yet to hear the testimony of one remaining witness.

The New York Police Department began erecting barriers around the Manhattan courthouse Monday morning, where Trump is expected to surrender.

The former president faces criminal charges for $130,000 in payments his former attorney, Michael Cohen, sent to porn star Stormy Daniels towards the end of his 2016 campaign. Prosecutors allege Trump’s company “falsely accounted” for monthly payments to Daniels as legal fees, claiming a non-existent retainer agreement with Cohen.

Cohen was in jail after pleading guilty to two criminal charges, including using campaign funds over Daniels and another woman who allegedly had an affair with Trump.

Trump’s former personal attorney said he had acted on his orders and that the payouts were intended to keep the affair stories out of public knowledge before the 2016 election. Trump has admitted he paid back Cohen, but he is denied having an affair.

He since called on his supporters to protest the case.

Nancy Pelosi and Donald Trump were bitter enemies when he was president – he called her “Crazy Nancy” as she doubted his mental capacity to be president.

She stepped down as leader of the House Democrats after the 2022 election, but was given the honorary title of speaker emeritus.

And she has shown her unencumbered side now that she is no longer the party leader.

“I’m emancipated now!” she told the Los Angeles Times. ‘Freed! Freedom! Finally free!’

The Times gave a sneak peek at her post-speaker life, including details like she eats ice cream for breakfast, a hot dog for lunch, and tries to dance more.

In addition, she told the paper, “I’m writing a book.”

She gave no details about what it was about or when it came out.

During her lunch with the LA Times reporter, she made sure not to mention Trump’s name. And when it accidentally slipped out, she instructed him. ‘Don’t write that down. Tell her she burped.’
