Sadio Mane showed Liverpool fans what they are missing with a wonder goal in Bayern Munich’s 5-0 Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen.

The German champions made light work of their Czech opponents, scoring five goals for the hour to break the record for longest unbeaten run in the Champions League group stage, with 31 matches.

Leroy Sane scored two goals from Bayern, but it was Sadio Mane’s goal that served as a timely reminder of what the Senegalese star is all about.

Picking up the ball just outside Plzen’s area, Mané lifted the ball over two defenders, hurried and made his way through a collection of opponents on the edge of the penalty area, then popped a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

It was the sort of goal Liverpool fans were used to seeing in Mane’s time at Anfield and they were quick to comment on their former forward’s goal on Twitter.

The reminder of what he can do on a football pitch saw supporters confess how much they wish Mane was still at the club, with one fan saying: ‘Sadio Mane scoring in a red shirt that is not of the #LFC faith makes me pain’.

It was a sentiment shared by another account who simply said, “Sadio Mane is class, I miss him.”

While others were quick to point out that with Liverpool’s poor start to the season, they could use the kind of threat the Bayern star offers. One fan said: ‘Mane just scored the kind of goal we’re missing!’

Some even asked for divine intervention, in a wish to see Mane back at Anfield. Every time I see Mane score Kate Bush’s plays ‘Running Up That Hill’. I wish we could make a deal with God to get him back.”

Mane has made an impressive start to living in Germany, scoring seven goals in his first 13 appearances for the Munich club, as Liverpool struggle after losing two more points in a 3-3 draw with Brighton last weekend.

Previously, Paul Merson had spoken about the sale of Mane, calling it the worst thing he’s seen in the transfer market.

In his Sky Sports column, the former England midfielder said: “I’ve said it from day one, in my opinion selling Sadio Mane was the worst thing ever. The guy is scoring big, big goals. Go through it, first goals, equalizing, winning goals in the last minutes, big goals.

“He led from the front with his closure, and to me, what they were selling him for, I just didn’t get it.”
