Joy Reid sparks anger by attacking Thanksgiving

MSNBC’s Joy Reid has attacked Thanksgiving calling it a “simplistic fairy tale” based on a lie Republicans rely on to cover up that America was founded on “genocide.”

The host opened Wednesday’s edition of ReidOut by attacking the holiday and its traditions as millions of Americans prepare for the festivities.

Reid said that for millions of Americans, Thanksgiving is a day of cherished tradition, but the holiday was in fact based on a series of “historical inaccuracies.”

“It’s based on this myth that the indigenous people welcomed their settlers with open arms and ears of corn,” Reid said.

‘A simplistic fairy tale interpretation of a 1621 encounter between indigenous tribes and English settlers that erases the genocide that followed.

‘It’s the truth that the Republicans want it banned from our textbooks.’

MSNBC’s Joy Reid has attacked Thanksgiving calling it a “simplistic fairy tale” based on a lie Republicans rely on to cover up that America is built on “genocide.”

She goes on to say that the Republicans “desperately” want to keep this “secret” because America is, in fact, a “violence-based” country.

“Our birth was a violent one, in 1619, a ship with more than 20 enslaved Africans landed in Virginia ushering in two centuries of American slavery that left millions in chains or dead,” he said.

“When those captive humans were finally set free, a terrorist organization that was a reputable member of polite society, the Ku Klux Klan, retook the place where the civil war ended.

Reid goes on to say that ‘using violence to maintain white supremacy, the Klan and its ilk’ remain active in the United States.

“As Americans we continue to choose violence, we are a country that chooses violence over and over again. There is no facet of American society that has not been touched by it,” he said.

While some supported his views, praising the progressive host for his “telling the truth,” others criticized Reid’s comments.

While some supported her views, praising the progressive presenter for her “telling the truth,” others criticized Reid’s comments calling out her “hate” for America.

Mark Reed Levin, an American lawyer, author and radio personality who is the host of the syndicated radio show The Mark Levin Show, tweeted: “The case of fucking head who hates our fabulous country knows no bounds.”

President of News Cycle Media and editor of Breaking News at DC Examiner Jon Nicosia called Reid “American hate” and tweeted: “Talentless, America-hating homophobe with bad hair.”

Others challenged Reid’s analysis by asking if Americans could ‘enjoy anything’: ‘Aren’t we allowed to enjoy anything?’

One Twitter user said: “Joy has nothing if she can’t compete with the bait.” Sad’

Another said: ‘Your racist venom is affecting your ability to distinguish between your rhetoric and reality. Get help!’

In March, Reid faced backlash over on-air comments criticizing media coverage of the conflict in Ukraine, an issue she says is rising above wars involving “brown and black” people in all the world.

Reid argued that Americans only care about the war because Ukrainians are “white and largely Christian.”

Conservative commentators were quick to criticize Reid’s comments.

“All he likes to do is go out and stir up racial hatred,” journalist Megyn Kelly said of Reid’s comments, during a televised interview with Sky News Australia.

‘Your point, of course, is stupid and baseless.’

Kelly, 51, continued: “I was on Fox News when the Syrian crisis happened,” addressing Reid’s comparison between Western coverage of the two conflicts.

“We carried that story out here in the United States, night after night after night,” Kelly said. ‘She was too, apparently, an idiot to pay attention.’

Of Reid’s racially charged segment, the former Fox news firebrand said: “The fact that NBC and MSNBC allow this is an absolute disgrace.”
