Two of Australia’s leading jockeys have been rushed to hospital after being involved in a horrific collision mid-race.
Jamie Kah and Craig Williams were racing at Melbourne’s Flemington on Saturday when Kah’s horse fell and tripped Williams’ ride during the Group Two Sires’ Produce Stakes (1,400m).
Kah, who currently heads the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership, was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition after her horse Flyball clipped race winner Veight’s heels.
She was ‘barred’ in the turf and was left with a severe concussion from the fall.
The 27-year-old reportedly fell in and out of consciousness immediately after the incident, but has been cleared of brain damage, Racing net reported.

Kah’s partner, fellow jockey Ben Melham, who is also a jockey, rushed to her hospital bed after winning the next race.
“I’m going to put the cue in the rack for the day and make sure she’s okay,” Melham said.
“It’s just a reminder of how dangerous the job can be. At the moment winners are not important as long as everyone is doing well.’
Williams suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs and broken finger on top of a concussion and was taken to Alfred Hospital.
Both Flyball and Williams horse Dubenenko were trampled by other horses after the fall.
The horses suffered minor abrasions and will be checked again by veterinarians on Sunday.
The head of the Victorian Jockeys’ Association, Matt Hyland, described Kah’s fall as “pretty serious.”
“She was unconscious for a while, but thankfully conscious now,” he said.
Kah was meant to ride In Secret for the Group 1 Newmarket Handica but was replaced by Dean Holland.
The horse she was supposed to ride rode off with a $1.5 million Flemington feature.

Holland kept the celebrations to a minimum out of respect.
“The last thing I wanted to do today, win, lose or draw (was keep going). It’s very unfortunate what happened to Jamie and Willo,’ he said.
“My thoughts go out to them, I was just the lucky one to ride light today and pick up the ride on one of Australia’s best sprinters.”
Saturday’s dramatic fall was the second in consecutive Flemington encounters.
The latest incident has shocked the tight-knit Victorian racing community, especially the driving cohort.
It follows the fall of Ethan Brown and Mark Zahra last Saturday.
Brown is still in Royal Melbourne Hospital with internal injuries after his horse Maximillius rolled on top of him.
