Happiest Cities in the US Revealed: Fremont, CA tops the list for the best wages, home prices and mental health

California has some of the happiest cities in America, while cold and rainy Detroit ranks lowest – with New York City ranked 57th.

Despite rising inflation and the eye-watering cost of living across the country, the Golden State ranks 29 times on the list of 182 cities ranked by Wallet hub as the happiest cities, with the most entries in the top 25.

It seems they suck up the vitamin D, live in sandy coastal cities and rarely have to brave the snow fairs properly for residents of Fremont and San Jose, California, who made the top two spots on the list.

Both cities also ranked number one for physical and mental well-being. Fremont was ranked number one for community and environment and for the lowest depression rate.

Los Angeles ranked 76th, while its fellow East Coast metropolis, New York City, ranked only 57th. Detroit, Cleveland, and several Southern cities ranked last.

Fremont has a median income of $56,000, while Detroit earns just $21,000, according to the Census Bureau. Fremont is largely made up of white and Asian Americans, with more than 60 percent holding a bachelor’s degree, while Detroit is largely African American and white, with only 16 percent holding a college degree.

Each city was ranked based on 30 different factors, including income growth, depression rates and leisure time.

Despite finances stressing 83 percent of Americans, several California cities scored the highest in income growth, according to Wallet Hub, including Oakland, San Francisco and San Bernardino, as well as Miami and Seattle.

Whereas Juneau, Alaska, next to Casper, Wyoming, ranks worst in terms of income growth; Shreveport, Louisiana; Charleston, West Virginia; and Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Three cities in California — Fremont, Irving, San Jose — also rank lowest for depression. Another low for Huntington, West Virginia – which ranked second for cities overall – also highest for depression, as well as Charleston, West Virginia; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Spokane and Vancouver, Washington.

Detroit also ranked last for residents getting enough sleep. Cleveland, which ranked fourth overall, had the second worst score for a good night’s sleep.

Another blow to the two Midwestern cities, both ranked as the worst for divorce and separation rates, while Fremont, Irvine and San Jose were among the lowest.

Despite the Golden State having many brilliant properties to attract residents looking for a quiet life, the East Coast has the lowest suicide rate, with New York City in third place and Yonkers – a suburb of the city – in fifth place. place. Newark and Jersey City had the lowest suicide rates.

Meanwhile, the Great Plains had the highest suicide rate, according to Wallet Hub. Five cities tied for the highest suicide rates – Colorado Springs, Colorado; Billings, Montana; Juneau, Alaska; Rapid City, South Dakota; and Casper, Wyoming.

Nordic countries – Finland, Denmark and Iceland – have the happiest citizens, while Afghanistan ranks lowest of the 137 ranked, according to the World Happiness Report.

The United States is below New Zealand, Australia and Canada, but above the United Kingdom and France.

Countries were ranked based on perceptions of corruption, generosity and social support, among other things.
