Presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy calls on fellow GOP candidates to speak out against potential Trump impeachment after Nikki Haley and Tim Scott refuse to answer DailyMail.com questions

  • Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott and other potential presidential candidates have not yet responded to the shocking news that Trump could be indicted
  • Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called on the candidates to weigh in
  • He said an indictment would be the “beginning of the end” because using “power of arrest” would be to “eliminate the opposition of a ruling party.”

Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott and several other potential presidential candidates have yet to speak out on the exciting news that Donald Trump could be indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney this week.

Longtime presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy had some stern words for the field of Republicans on Saturday, claiming their silence could be “the beginning of the end.”

If charges are filed in the case involving Trump’s hush money payment to porn star Stormey Daniels, it would be the first against the former president — and could open a floodgate for other cases against him.

Neither Senator Scott nor former Governor Haley, a Trump-era ambassador to the United Nations, chose to answer DailyMail.com questions about the charges at the Palmetto Family Council’s Vision ’24 National Conservative Forum in North America. Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday.

Florida Governor DeSantis’s team did not respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment on the indictment.

“Today was an important day in the country,” Ramaswamy said at a brief press conference following his own comments on the forum.

“The reason I’m doing this is because the rest of the Republican field, I think, has been deafeningly silent on an important issue in the country,” he added of news that an indictment could be looming.

“What I am about to say has nothing to do with Donald Trump and everything to do with the integrity of elections and the integrity of a self-governing democracy,” the biotech multimillionaire added. “So I don’t care if you support Trump or not, if you are in favor of the integrity of our constitutional republic then you should stand aside to be very clear.”

Ramaswamy has been very vocal about the prospect of an indictment against Trump, claiming there would be no case if Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was not seriously anti-Trump.

He claimed at his press conference in Charleston on Saturday that he is a “politically empowered prosecutor” seeking to “eliminate a ruling party’s opposition using arrest power.”

Ramaswamy immediately responded to news of the impending indictment with a tweet on Saturday morning.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, also a potential 2024 hopeful, also responded by telling Breitbart News radio that the move, while not yet implemented, “smacks of the kind of political persecution we endured in the days of the Russian hoax’.

Othersie, the rest of the field of already announced and potential candidates remained silent on the matter.

“This morning we learned that it is likely that the New York Manhattan District Attorney will likely indict a former president of the United States who is running for office,” said Ramaswamy, making it clear that while he is in a presidential primary to Trump, his thoughts on the charges are not politically motivated.

“It’s a sad day in America,” he said. “It is a dark day in America as the ruling party in this country uses the power of the police to arrest its political opposition.”

“That would be the beginning of the end, as we know.”
