Gonzaga senior Drew Timme drops F-bomb on live TV after Bulldogs beat TCU

Gonzaga star Drew Timme dropped an F-bomb on TBS after the Bulldogs’ 84-81 second-round victory over TCU on Sunday.

As with the last seven NCAA tournaments, Gonzaga advanced to the Sweet 16 with Sunday’s win, prompting TBS side reporter Andy Katz to reminisce about the team’s recent success with the senior power forward.

“They have seven straight Sweet 16s,” Timme said. “I’m like, we can’t be the team to screw this up.”

A similar exchange occurred on TruTV after Florida Atlantic’s second-round win over Fairleigh Dickinson, when the FAU’s Johnell Davis told side reporter Jamie Erdahl, “I’ve been trying to prove that this sh.. oh!”

Erdahl replied, “That’s good, we’re on TruTv.”

Timme added something new to his spinning, spinning, head-faking, mustachioed repertoire – a three-pointer to help Gonzaga get over the hump and return to the Sweet 16.

Gonzaga’s big man extended his unique college career by at least one game, finishing with 28 points on Sunday to help the Zags clinch their eighth straight Sweet 16 with a come-from-behind 84-81 victory over TCU.

Timme made his first 3 since December – and only his third of the season – as part of a 13-1 run that helped third-seeded Zags (30-5) take a seven-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining to go after trailing most of the night.

“It was huge – the clock, the two-point lead,” Timme said of the margin before making his shot. “I just launched one up there. All you can do is smile and laugh.’

After TCU retreated three minutes late, Timme made a spinning shot into lane with a defender draped over him to cause a 4-0 mini-run that put the game out of bounds.

Next stop for the six-foot-tall senior and his social media-friendly mustache: Las Vegas for the West Region semifinals and a meeting with UCLA on Thursday. It will be a rematch of the Final Four game from two years ago when Jalen Suggs reeled in one of the half-court logo on the buzzer for the win.

Mike Miles Jr. finished with 24 points and four assists in his second straight Electric game to the sixth-seeded Horned Frogs (22-13), who were attempting to win two games in the same tournament for the first time in program history.

Gonzaga coach Mark Few briefly pulled Miles aside during the post-game handshake.

“He said he’s coached a lot of NBA players and I’m one,” Miles said. ‘It is appreciated.’

Damion Baugh finished with 15 points for TCU, including a not-so-meaningless 3 that he hit the buzzer to help the Horned Frogs cover the 4.5-point spread listed on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Small consolation for TCU, though for more than 30 minutes the Frogs looked very much like one of the top 16 teams in the country. They came to the Bulldogs in waves, trying to hold off Timme with every big man on the roster.

But while the great Gonzaga man worked for every one of his 12 baskets and his eight rebounds, TCU’s greats were all in deep trouble as the game came to a close. One of the two Horned Frogs to foul was JaKobe Coles, who made the final second runner to give TCU the first-round victory against Arizona State.

“Obviously it was pretty early in the first half when we had to make some adjustments, play a lot of different lineups, probably even deeper than I thought we would,” said TCU coach Jamie Dixon.

TCU led by as many as 10 in the first half.

Rasir Bolton (17 points) led Gonzaga’s first major run. His two three-pointers and another from Julian Strawther gave the Bulldogs a 46–45 lead after missing 12 of their 14 attempts from behind the arc in the first half.

A Las Vegas native, Strawther heads home for his team’s next game. And Timme joined a list that included Bill Bradley, Elvin Hayes and Danny Manning as the only seventh player with nine NCAA Tournament games over 20 points.

“I think he will go down as one of the all-time greatest college players in the history of the game,” said Few. And he still wasn’t supposed to shoot those 3. But that makes him good. He does that sort of thing now and then.’
