Emotional Gethin Jones wipes away tears as he raises over £1 million for Comic Relief in 24-hour danceathon

Gethin Jones is a TV presenter from Wales who took part in Strictly Come Dancing 16 years ago.

And on Friday, an emotional Gethin, 45, wiped away tears when told he had raised just under £1 million for Comic Relief thanks to his 24-hour danceathon, passing the milestone shortly after.

The BBC Morning Live presenter bent his way through the night – while dressed in a variety of costumes, including as Pixar’s Mr. Incredible – in an effort to raise money, which continues to rise.

Gethin was joined on the daytime show by his co-stars Kimberley Walsh and Helen Skelton live on air for the final countdown to completing his charity danceathon.

Gold confetti rained down on them after the ticker ran down, and he told viewers, “This party sums it up.” All the overnight messages were phenomenal.

Disbelief!

Disbelief! “I can’t quite believe what we’ve raised for Comic Relief!” admitted the daytime TV star

“I can’t quite believe what we’ve raised for Comic Relief!” admitted the veteran TV presenter.

As he choked, Gethin began to cry as he gushed, “It’s going to change lives.” It’s going to save lives. I’ve said it all along, I’m so proud. I feel privileged to have led it, but it’s a team effort.’

The Cardiff-born presenter – who has just been announced as an ambassador for GO Outdoors’ brand new North Ridge – was surrounded by colleagues applauding his impressive performance.

Gethin then fell to the floor after completing his physically exhausting 24-hour danceathon.

Prior to his televised fundraiser, he shared Subway“As a kid I took to the streets for Children In Need and raised money for Comic Relief at school, so being asked for one of their big challenges is a real privilege.

‘Dancing is fun, but being awake for 24 hours is a challenge. Moving for 24 hours… back, ankle injuries, all those things can come back into it. So it becomes a bit of a mental challenge.

“I train pretty hard, I do different things. I’m actually training for a bit of a physical challenge in late April, which is a lot of base strength.

“There’s a lot of sledding and burpees, and pushing and pulling stuff and running, and stuff like that. So fitness-wise I’m pretty good!’
