NRL joker Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin was at his best on Friday night, describing on live television a bizarre interaction between an overzealous footy fan and Melbourne Storm great Cameron Smith in the toilets of Suncorp Stadium.
Vautin, 63, is known for his quick wit – and he let down his Channel Nine panel colleagues as he remembered the story.
During his speech at the end of the second round between the Broncos and Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium, Vautin did not hold back, much to everyone’s amusement.
‘We were in the brasco [toilet] before that and Cameron had a whizzer [urinating],’ he said.
Some dude then tapped Cameron on the shoulder and said, ‘Can I have a picture?

“It wasn’t the right time.”
Vautin, who is never afraid to be politically incorrect, then said: ‘I think he [Smith] worried about a bit of downsizing,” leaving the panel — also featuring commentator James Bracey and footy legend Brad Fittler — in fits of laughter.
It’s not the first time Vautin has done that gone rogue while the cameras were rolling.
In 2019, premiership-winning Sea Eagles captain stitched fellow commentator Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns after receiving an on-field escort penalty during a game between the Dragons and Storm.
“Joey, explain to us what an escort is,” Vautin said with a wink.
After several seconds of laughter from the commentary team, Johns finally managed to calm himself down.
“There’s a technical problem with my microphone here, something is wrong with my microphone,” he said, as the laughter – which also involved Johnathan Thurston – continued in the background.
Vautin was a popular host of Nine’s The Footy Show from 1994 until he took over from Erin Molan in 2018.
