Def Leppard’s one-armed drummer has spoken out after an alleged attack on him last week by a 19-year-old spring breaker from Florida.
Rick Allen, 59, posted a statement on Instagram thanking everyone for their support as he appeared to forgive the alleged perpetrator.
Thank you everyone for your overwhelming support. Your love and prayers really help. Fortunately, my wife Lauren was not with me at the time of the incident.
“We are now together and working on recovery in a safe space. We are focused on healing for all involved,” Allen wrote in a social media post on Sunday night, along with a selfie.
“We ask you to join us in our effort to move from confusion and shock to compassion and empathy. We understand that this act of violence can trigger so many people,” he continued.

“To all fans, veterans and first responders in our global community, we are thinking of you all. Together with love, we can all get through these difficult times,” Allen added.
Allen did not name his alleged attacker at any point.
Police believe it was 19-year-old Max Edward Hartley who committed the assault.
An arrest report details how Hartley is accused of knocking Allen to the ground before assaulting his wife.
Hartley was booked on battery charges for the alleged assault.
Allen had been in Florida to perform a show with his band at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and was staying at the Four Seasons hotel.
He had stepped outside for a cigarette when the violent attack took place.
A police report from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said Hartley, from Ohio, hid behind a pillar outside the hotel before charging at the drummer and knocking him to the ground, hitting his head.

After knocking Allen to the ground, Hartley allegedly assaulted his wife Monroe, punching her multiple times and dragging her hair before fleeing the area.
Allen, who sadly lost his arm in a car accident in 1984, gave an affidavit to police telling them he wanted Hartley to be prosecuted.
Authorities confirmed that Allen “hit his head on the floor causing injury,” as a woman – now reportedly his wife Lauren Monroe, a singer – rushed out of the hotel to help him.
But Hartley allegedly then attacked Monroe, punching her multiple times and dragging her hair before fleeing the area.
The report states: ‘While she is lying on the floor, the defendant continues to mistreat her by beating her. [She] tries to escape by running into the hotel.
Suspect then grabs [her] by her hair and drags her out of the lobby and back onto the curb before fleeing the area.”
Hartley was later arrested after being found smashed in car windows by officers at a nearby hotel.
Hartley played Varsity Lacrosse and football at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland and was on vacation from school.
