An actor arrested Tuesday for allegedly leading a cult that sexually assaulted young Native girls had suicide pills for his five wives in case police stormed his Las Vegas home, according to a new report.
Nathan Chasing Horse, 46, is known for his role as Smiles a Lot – a young member of the Sioux tribe in the Oscar-winning 1990 film Dances With Wolves.
In the critically acclaimed film, he co-starred with Kevin Costner, and went on to earn a reputation among tribes in the US and Canada as a so-called medicine man who performed healing ceremonies and spiritual gatherings.
But that reputation was damaged seven years ago when tribal leaders banned him from the Fort Peck reservation over human trafficking allegations, and shattered Tuesday when he was taken into custody near his home in North Las Vegas.

The police have accused him of abusing his reputation’as a means of sexually assaulting young girls on numerous occasions,” read an arrest warrant, which said his followers believed he could communicate with higher beings.
Now a new report has said Chasing Horse may have had a gruesome contingency plan ready to be hatched should police come to his home.
Citing sources, CBS partner CLASS 8 News Now reported that police believe the actor planned to have his wives (of which he allegedly has at least five) take “suicide pills” and get ready for a shootout with law enforcement.
Las Vegas police spent hours investigating the actor’s home in northern Nevada after he was taken into custody, the news station reported. SWAT officers were seen outside the two-story home as detectives conducted their search.
Police have not reported any resistance to entering the premises or arresting the actor near his home.
However, when they went in to raid the house, one of the biggest concerns among officers was the possibility that there might be unsecured firearms in the property, even with children present, 8 News Now said.

His arrest is the culmination of a months-long investigation that began after police received a tip in October 2022.
According to a 50-page search warrant obtained by the Associated Press, Chasing Horse is believed to be the leader of a cult known as The Circle.
The document says Las Vegas police have identified at least six alleged victims and uncovered sexual allegations against Chasing Horse dating back to the early 2000s in multiple states, including Montana, South Dakota (where he was born), Nevada , where he lived for about a year. decade, and even Canada.
According to the warrant, some of the alleged victims were as young as 13 years old. One of Chasing Horse’s wives is said to have been presented to him as a “gift” when she was 15, while another became a woman after she turned 16.
Chasing Horse is also accused of recording assaults and arranging sex with the victims for other men who allegedly paid him.
8NewsNow reported that police said victims were given emergency contraceptive pills after Chasing Horse had sex with them to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
The outlet said there could be even more victims and co-conspirators.

There was no attorney listed in Chasing Horse’s court records available to comment on his behalf Tuesday night, the Associated Press said.
Chasing Horse was born on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Sicangu Sioux, one of the seven tribes of the Lakota Nation.
According to the warrant, he was banned from the Fort Peck Reservation in Poplar, Montana, in 2015 amid allegations of human trafficking.
“Nathan Chasing Horse used spiritual traditions and their belief system as a means of sexually assaulting young girls on numerous occasions,” it read.
Followers believed he could communicate with higher beings and called him “medicine man” or “sacred person,” the order adds.
While the warrant includes details of crimes reported elsewhere, the arrest stems from crimes allegedly committed in Nevada’s Clark County. They include sex trafficking, sexual assault of a child under the age of 16, and child abuse.
His arrest comes as US attorneys general and legislators explore the possibility of creating specialized units to handle cases involving Indigenous women.
In South Dakota, the Attorney General’s Office has placed a new focus on crimes against Native Americans, including human trafficking and homicides.
