A dancer has told how she awoke from a coma with no arms or legs after being bitten by a mosquito while abroad.

Tatiana Timon, 35, from Camberwell, London, was rushed to hospital after returning from an ‘amazing’ dance trip to Angola, Africa, last year with malaria.

Miss Timon’s condition quickly deteriorated and doctors had to put her in an induced coma after she developed sepsis.

When she awoke, she “knew” something had happened to her, but soon realized that her arms and legs had been amputated.

But she’s said she’s just “grateful to be alive” and has stayed positive despite waking up less than a year ago as a quadruple amputee.

When she awoke, she “knew” something had happened to her, but soon realized that her arms and legs had been amputated.

said Miss Timon MyLondon: ‘When I woke up from the coma I knew, I saw that I was in the hospital, and I knew something had happened to me.

“But at the time I didn’t know how bad it was, like I just knew something had happened.”

She explained that she had been in Angola for the “most amazing” ten days as she pursued her passion for Kizomba.

But she had been unknowingly stung by a mosquito and contracted the ‘deadliest’ form of malaria.

Miss Timon said she had “no idea” and admitted she hadn’t researched anti-malarials because she was so focused on Covid.

When she returned to London, Miss Timon said things quickly began to escalate and she failed to recover after falling off a bicycle.

She was rushed to hospital and slipped into a coma where she developed sepsis, so the doctors made the decision to amputate her limbs to save her life.

Miss Timon is now determined to become independent and is raising money for new prosthetic arms and legs. You can donate to the effort here.

She shares updates on her Instagram page and promises to stay positive. Miss Timon wrote on a post, “Now even with no limbs I know I will be going back to the gym.

“I’m determined to get back to being my healthy self, mentally and physically.”

She added, “What happened to me changed me. Changed me inside. I have the support of my friends, my family. I’m just thankful to be alive. Just being thankful is enough.

“I’ve always been positive, I joke about everything. I can turn something negative into something positive to make my life easier, because I don’t like stress. It happened, so I have to deal with it.’
