Carla Connor of Coronation Street is left for dead, merchant killer Stephen Reid

Coronation Street serial killer Stephen Reid left Carla Connor for dead on Friday’s episode.

Underworld boss Carla (Alison King) lashed out at Stephen (Todd Boyce) in another drug-induced outburst, with a temporary exit for the character airing at the end of the ITV soap’s episode.

Villain Stephen is slowly drugging his boss in an attempt to take over the Underworld underwear factory, but after she undermined him again, he retaliated by enriching her tea.

When a confused Carla decided she might need to go back on her antipsychotic medication, she went to her room to take a nap, while a sinister Stephen let herself in.

Slipping into the kitchen undetected, a scheming Stephen turned on the grill, hoping to cause a huge explosion.

As huge flames roared from the open furnace below, smoke began to billow around Carla as she slept upstairs.

Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was seen choking as he made his way through the property in an attempt to stop the inferno.

Carla was completely unaware of the life-threatening chaos that reigned as she slept after taking prescription diazepam to help her supposed mental health problems, believing she was suffering from psychosis again after a previous breakdown, unaware that she was drugged by Stephen.

However, Stephen had been drugging her for weeks and on this occasion entered her house after taking her keys from the factory.

Fortunately, Roy had been asked by Carla’s partner Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to check on her.

Roy hurried to wake Carla, and she insisted she hadn’t even used the oven before she went to sleep.

The incident caused her to make plans to check into a mental health facility in an effort to get better from any illness she may have been suffering from.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street is rocked by a shocking death next week, leaving Evelyn Plummer devastated.

Evelyn is devastated at her loss and furiously declares Roy’s cafe a death trap.

Roy tells Nina to get rid of his phone because if he hadn’t been distracted he would never have dropped the cake and Cerberus might still be alive.

Will Evelyn and Roy manage to sort things out?

Speaking of the upcoming episodes, actress Maureen said, “It’s really sad. I had to say goodbye to my real life dog on Zoom, so it didn’t take much effort to imagine this.

“I really loved Cerberus, Boss is his name and he’s a sweet dog, seriously sweet by nature and an incredibly beautiful dog. Delicious. It was as if he suspected he was being written out! He was a little subdued for a few days. He was brave and that made it even sadder.’

When asked if Evelyn and Roy can move on, she added: ‘Look, she’s going to pay money for a cup of tea to make at home in Roy’s, quite often, so she does want to spend time with him.

Roy understands grieving. He understands where she comes from, it doesn’t take much to get her to the lesson, because she knows where her bread can best be greased. She takes pity on him and sends him to Coventry for a while.

“Evelyn is a big believer in keeping things bottled up and not whining, no one gives her much sympathy. She goes through with it as she would.

“Losing a dog is like losing a spouse or partner, all the routines have to change and no one wants a miserable bastard, so she feels she needs to learn not to overthink it and get on with her life .’

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
