The AI chatbot ChatGPT is the fastest growing application in the history of the internet with an estimated 13 million daily users – but can YOU match the riddle-solving powers of ChatGPT?
We gave ChatGPT a series of (fairly tricky) riddles and it solved them effortlessly – well, most of them.
In two cases, the popular bot was either wrong or stopped mid-answer with a blinking cursor that stopped mid-sentence.
We didn’t use any prompt other than writing the riddle in the text box – so if you want to test ChatGPT’s ability to solve riddles, that’s how to do it.

ChatGPT is not yet perfect at solving puzzles and can produce mixed results for everything from cryptographic puzzles to crossword puzzles, said AI expert Rijul Gupta, Chief Executive Officer at Deepmedia AI.
Gupta says, “The hype around ChapGPT is mixed, with some claiming it is “scary and dangerous” while others find it extremely useful.
“When it comes to solving riddles? It is not an enigmatologist (puzzle expert).”
It’s not surprising that ChatGPT doesn’t solve some riddles, says Gupta.
Gupta says, “It can produce different results if you let it do a crossword puzzle. The thing about ChatGPT – and AI chatbots in general – is that it can be confidently wrong in a way that sounds super convincing if you don’t know the real answer yourself.
“We’ve seen a slew of examples online where they simply failed to solve an encryption puzzle.
“So while ChatGPT is good for a lot of things, solving riddles/puzzles is just something it can do perfectly well, but still.”
ChatGPT averaged 13 million daily users in January, making it the fastest-growing Internet app of all time, according to analytics firm CompareWeb.
It took TikTok about nine months after its global launch to reach 100 million users, and Instagram more than two years.
OpenAI, a private company backed by Microsoft Corp., made ChatGPT available to the public for free at the end of November.
