They say it’s an insect life, but a collection of new photos sheds new light on an insect’s secret life.
The images make them look more like aliens than insects.
Ondrej Pakan, from Myjava, Slovakia, explained the amazing array of microscopic insects after a rain shower.

Secret life of an insect: Water drops make this stake appear twice as large

Tiny droplets of water make the critters look very different – they inflate to a larger size once covered in liquid.
In one striking photo, an ant appears to strain under the heavy weight of water droplets settling on its body.
Another shows a huge wasp about to fly, doused in water.
While a blue-eyed insect stares through the lens of Ondrej’s camera – covered in water droplets.

Is that a wasp: The water droplets almost double the size of the wasp’s body

The Slovak photographer specializes in capturing the microscopic of the world insects seconds after a downpour but also has to avoid the showers itself.
He said: ‘I’m getting soaked waiting for it to stop raining, but it all seems worth it when you get really great shots of the bugs with droplets on them.

“In some of the more exotic locations, it’s a challenge to keep your gear from getting too wet.
“People seem to really like the colors and the way the water magnifies the bugs’ features.”
Ondrej used his trusty Canon 40D with a special lens to capture the stunning shots.
