A growing number of Americans say acceptance of transgenderism has gone “too far” and half reject the use of gender-neutral pronouns, a new poll finds.

The poll — released just a week before transgender Audrey Hale shot and killed six people at a Nashville school — was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, with funding from the Wall Street Journal.

They surveyed 1,019 people between March 1 and 13, 2023, from across the political spectrum.

When asked if American society has gone too far in accepting people who are transgender, 43 percent of people voted yes — compared to 33 percent who said society “hasn’t gone far enough.”

Only 23 percent said society was “roughly right.”

When answering the question “Do you have a favorable, unfavorable, or neither favorable nor unfavorable view of people who identify their pronouns in email, communication, or conversation,” double the number of people (42 percent) chose “unfavorable” compared with ‘favorable’. (21 percent.)

And when the poll asked how people felt about using them to address a gender-neutral person, 50 percent chose “unfavorable” compared to 18 percent chose “favorable.”

The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 4.1 percentage points, at a 95 percent confidence level among all adults, and, according to the report, “the panel provides sample coverage of approximately 97 percent of the U.S. household population.”

The findings show that a growing number of Americans are becoming more adverse to accepting transgender issues, using pronouns and addressing gender-neutral people.

This new poll comes during a difficult time in the US for transgender issues.

This month, ESPN honored former University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas as part of a “Celebrating Women’s History Month” segment despite being a trans woman.

Thomas became the first transgender woman to win an Ivy League championship and later an NCAA championship in the 500-meter freestyle, but has sparked debate over whether it is fair for trans women to participate in women’s sports.

The swimmer has denied that she has an unfair competitive advantage because of her birth sex.

“People will say, ‘Oh, she just switched so she would have an advantage so she could win.’ I switched to be happy,” Thomas said in the ESPN clip.

Across the country in Nebraska, senators have engaged in a fierce filibuster of the legislature — preventing all bills from passing in response to a vote to pass a transgender law.

The bill, LB 574, was approved Thursday after three controversial days of debate. Two more debates are now needed before it is signed into law.

The bill, dubbed “Let Them Grow,” would ban gender-affirming care such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery for people under 19.

In response to the bill’s progress, Senator Megan Hunt — who revealed during debate Wednesday that her 12-year-old son is transgender — said she would filibuster any future bills.

Scenes from the court proceedings have gone viral on social media as people speak out about the terrifying, divisive attitudes towards gender-affirming care in Nebraska.

Earlier this month, a transgender woman went viral on social media after she claimed a TSA agent at JFK Airport punched her in the testicles and yelled at her for having a penis.

The ordeal caused crowds of people to debate online how the issue should have been handled at one of the United States’ busiest airports.

And on March 2, Tennessee Governor William Lee signed the ban on transgender treatment for children into law — becoming the latest state to do so amid the so-called trans debate nationwide.

The move means there is a total ban on all gender-affirming child health care in the state, including puberty blockers and hormone treatments.

In addition to the treatment ban, Lee also signed a new law banning “adult-oriented” entertainment, such as drag shows, from public property. From April 1, the events can only take place in age-restricted venues.

The new medical legislation, which was accelerated by the state’s Republican majority, will take full effect this summer.

This means that all children in Tennessee who are currently on gender-affirming medication have until March 31, 2024 to come off it.

Gov. Lee signed the bill into law and entered the legislature despite harsh criticism and threats to prosecute from the American Civil Liberties Union, among others.
